Tutoring sessions take place at my home in Fairfax City, VA in a private backyard office.
I do not offer virtual tutoring at this time.
In order to offer a consistent, distraction free environment, with all of the necessary learning tools available for every student, all tutoring will take place in my private tutoring space.
All session times include 5 minutes at the end for family check in. Half hour sessions will include 25 minutes of tutoring time and hour long sessions will include 55 minutes of tutoring time. Reading tutoring requires 60 min sessions (2-3 tutoring sessions per week are recommended in order to work through the sequence of skills at a rate that is most beneficial to your child).
There is a one time material fee for all students:
Payment is due at the time of session or weekly (available for multiple sessions during one week).
With the exception of illnesses and emergencies, sessions canceled within 24 hours will be charged as a full session. Rescheduling a session may be possible with at least one-week notice and is subject to availability. Multiple absences or disciplinary issues may result in termination of services.
Math: I will use Add+Vantage Math Recovery assessments for number words and numerals, structuring numbers, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and place value.
Reading: Depending on your child’s age and grade level I will administer the Phonological Awareness Skills Test along with IMSE (Institute for Multi-Sensory Education) assessments of alphabet awareness, phonemes (smallest units of sound) and graphemes (the way we write sounds), and reading and writing of words and sentences.
Over the course of your student’s tutoring journey I will use various forms of informal assessments to track their progress and adjust my instruction. If I would like to administer any additional formal assessments, I will communicate that with parents/guardians prior to administration.
