“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” -Margaret Mead, anthropologist
All people are math people when foundational skills are strong and our natural instinct to be curious problem solvers is nurtured. Math is so much fun, especially when confidence is built, mistakes are celebrated as learning opportunities, and nothing is timed.
I received my training in Add+VantageMR® (AVMR) through the US Math Recovery Council. In addition, I have a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University, and five years of classroom experience. I teach math skills through number routines, engaging games and activities, and application to real life scenarios.
“Math Recovery® transforms numeracy education through customized and unique professional learning with meaningful assessment and instruction…
…Dynamic diagnostic assessments and learning trajectories guide the teaching topics such as number words and numerals, structuring numbers, and addition and subtraction – all of which affect the development of future mathematical understanding…multiplication and division strategies and place value understanding – critical concepts for more advanced mathematics.” (www.mathrecovery.org)
